Taekwondo Gifts & Presents

Looking for the perfect Taekwondo gift for your Taekwondo-loving husband, wife, friend or child? Here are a few holiday/birthday ideas. They range from small stock stuffers to large Taekwondo gifts (i.e. Taekwondo kicking bags).

Martial Arts Stocking Stuffers

Our Favorite Martial Arts Books

  • Taekwondo: The State of the Art - This Taekwondo book is well written and covers many topics (i.e. kicks, sparring and stances). The best section focuses on Taekwondo forms (WTF forms 1-8) as the book gives you detailed written instructions and visual aids. I often refer to this book when I am getting ready for my next belt test. Two thumbs up!
  • Competitive Taekwondo - This Taekwondo book provides a good overview of the training needed to become proficient at Taekwondo sparring. It covers areas such as training regimes, sparring exercises and strategy. My favorite part focused on counterattacks (i.e. How do I counter an opponent's roundhouse kick?). It gives you numerous counters for each attack.
  • Ultimate Flexibility: A Complete Guide to Stretching for Martial Arts - This martial arts book provides Taekwondo students with a huge variety of stretching exercises that will improve their flexibility. Hundreds of stretching exercises. This book is a must for any martial arts student who wants a higher spinning hook kick or who just wants to prevent/treat a nagging injury. Each stretch comes with pictures and instructions. Two thumbs up!
  • Martial Arts After 40 - This martial arts book is geared towards "older" martial arts athletes (like myself). It looks at how to take a martial arts course when you are past 40, the best stretches/exercises for older athletes, how to prevent age-related sports injuries, etc.
  • Complete Krav Maga - An excellent martial arts book with numerous pictures that show a wide range of self-defense techniques. This book teaches useful skills that you can use to enhance the knowledge that you have already learned at your Taekwondo school. Krav Maga is an Israeli self-defense program focused on practical techniques (anything that works). Two thumbs up!
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu - If you want to learn ground fighting in order to complement your Taekwondo skills, you should read this martial arts book. There are tons of detailed pictures and excellent instruction on how to deal with an opponent if the fight has turned into a wrestling match (and you can't use your awesome roundhouse kick).

Taekwondo Sparring & Training Equipment

  • Taekwondo Sparring Equipment - The perfect Taekwondo gift. Upgrade his/her cheap cloth pads with high density foam protection (i.e. Adidas or Mooto gear).
  • Useful Practice Equipment - More good Taekwondo gifts. They allow your loved one to practice at home.
  • Re-breakable boards - This Taekwondo gift allows them to practice their breaks at home.
  • Martial Arts Gear Bags - Put all of your sparring gear into a single martial arts bag.
  • Taekwondo Shoes - Your Taekwondo Master might sell/give your loved one a cheap pair of Taekwondo shoes as part of your introductory package. Once they have determined that they like Taekwondo and want to keep going, you should upgrade their shoes. The cheap shoes break and catch on the mats. My favorite Taekwondo shoe is the Adidas AdiLuxe Martial Arts Shoe. No laces to come un-done, fits like a glove and has a great tread.
  • Martial Arts Floor Mats - If your loved one trains at home, you might want to consider adding martial arts floor mats in order to minimize any impact from falls or throws.
  • Wicking T-Shirts - These t-shirts will "wick" away moisture (as you WILL sweat during Taekwondo). This will help to lower your body temperature and make things more comfortable during intense Taekwondo workouts. Wear these t-shirts under your Taekwondo uniform.
  • Steel Water Bottles - You will sweat a ton during sparring or a typical Taekwondo workout. Therefore, you should bring your own water and save money (versus buying expensive bottled water)! Also buy stainless steel bottles in order to avoid any potential chemicals that leech out of plastic bottles.
  • Shoe Repair Glue - Taekwondo shoes can fall apart quickly because of all of the spins & kicks. Buy some shoe repair glue so you can fix any minor damage to your favorite shoes (i.e. the sole starts to come off). This cheap but necessary Taekwondo gear will save you in the long-run because you will not have to buy a new pair of shoes every six months.
  • Exercise Equipment - If your loved one is really serious about martial arts, you can buy them some exercise equipment in order to help them to become stronger & more flexible.
