Written Instructions for Taekwondo ITF Pattern 2 (Dan-Gun)
* Since some ITF schools seem to have slightly different instructions for Dan-Gun, I have included alternative versions of this Taekwondo pattern. The main difference seems to be different names for the same stances (i.e. back stance versus L-stance). Please find the version taught at your school.
Alternate # 1 with Forward & Back Stances
- Start in the Joon-Bi or Ready stance
- Turn left 90 degrees and go into a back stance (left leg forward), middle knife hand block
- Step forward into a front stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Turn right 180 degrees and go into a back stance (right leg forward), middle knife hand block
- Step forward into a front stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Turn left 90 degrees and go into a front stance (left leg forward), low block with left arm
- Step forward into a front stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Step forward into a front stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Step forward into a front stance with right leg forward, right high punch, yell "Kihap"!
- Turn left 270 degrees into a back stance (left leg forward), perform a right high block and left outside block at same time
- Step forward forward into a front stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Turn right 180 degrees into a back stance (right leg forward), perform a left high block and right outside block at same time
- Step forward forward into a front stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Turn left 90 degrees into a front stance (left leg forward), left low block and then a left high block
- Step forward into a front stance (right leg forward), right high block
- Step forward into a front stance (left leg forward), left high block
- Step forward into a front stance (right leg forward), right high block
- Turn left 270 degrees into a back stance, left knife hand strike
- Step forward into a front stance (right leg forward), right high punch
- Turn left 180 degrees into a back stance, right knife hand strike
- Step forward into a front stance (left leg forward), left high punch, yell "Kihap"!
- When Master says "Bah Ro", turn left into Ready stance (facing the instructor).
Alternative # 2 with Walking Stances & L-Stances
- Start in the Joon-Bi or Ready stance
- Turn left 90 degrees and go into a L-stance (left leg forward), middle knife hand guarding block
- Step forward into a walking stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Turn right 180 degrees and go into a L-stance (right leg forward), middle knife hand guarding block
- Step forward into a walking stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Turn left 90 degrees and go into a walking stance (left leg forward), low block with left arm
- Step forward into a walking stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Step forward into a walking stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Step forward into a walking stance with right leg forward, right high punch, yell "Kihap"!
- Turn left 270 degrees into a L-stance (left leg forward), perform a right high block and left outside block at same time
- Step forward forward into a walking stance with right leg forward, right high punch
- Turn right 180 degrees into a L-stance (right leg forward), perform a left high block and right outside block at same time
- Step forward forward into a walking stance with left leg forward, left high punch
- Turn left 90 degrees into a walking stance (left leg forward), left low block and then a left high block
- Step forward into a walking stance (right leg forward), right high block
- Step forward into a walking stance (left leg forward), left high block
- Step forward into a walking stance (right leg forward), right high block
- Turn left 270 degrees into a L-stance, left knife hand strike
- Step forward into a walking stance (right leg forward), right high punch
- Turn left 180 degrees into a L-stance, right knife hand strike
- Step forward into a walking stance (left leg forward), left high punch, yell "Kihap"!
- When Master says "Bah Ro", turn left into Ready stance (facing the instructor).
